Today’s interview is with Mehul Sanghani, CEO, and Jim Vant, Senior Vice President, Octo Consulting Group. Everyone talks about agile software development; it much more difficult to put it in work boots. There have many noble attempts to change federal projects to a more agile method, but there are obvious restrictions like data silos, heavy regulation, and budgets that get yanked at the drop of a hat.
Despite these barriers, organizations like the GSA have innovated with the well-publicized 18F program. Some listeners may have heard of a little know agency called the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). They have a new attempt to make agile software development to support called the NGA’s Agile Web Presence (AWP).
We all know that agile software development is predicated on short “chunks” of code. The challenge is in adapting this method of software development. During the interview, Sanghani gives a good description of the phrase “fixed price per sprint.” Listen to the interview to learn about new ways the federal government is innovating the way it produces and acquires software.
