  • The Senior Executives Association honored 43 recipients of the 2015 Presidential Rank Awards at a banquet in Washington April 21. The winners were responsible for saving government more than $121 billion. Director of National Intelligence James Clapper gave the keynote speech.

  • The Presidential Rank Awards returned this year after a one year hiatus. The awards honor the top 1 percent of senior federal career leaders and the important work federal employees do every day. Among this year\'s winners was Dr. Richard Linderman. He is the Chief Scientist of the Information Directorate in the Air Force\'s Rome Research Laboratory. He joined Tom Temin on the Federal Drive to discuss his achievement.

The program recognizes members of the Senior Executive Service for extraordinary service with cold, hard cash. Last year, the Obama administration canceled the awards program, which recognizes members of the Senior Executive Service for extraordinary service, citing tight budgets.

  • Last spring, as across-the-board budget cuts roiled through agencies across government, the White House decided to cancel the monetary portion of the Presidential Rank Awards, which granted recipients as much as 35 percent of their salary in a one-time bonus. But the White House maintained it was "focused on finding means to acknowledge excellence in non-monetary ways." The Senior Executives Association (SEA), in a statement released Monday said it still hasn't heard from President Barack Obama on those alternatives.
