The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology is taking the first steps toward bridging the gap between federal and private health information systems by making free software available online. CONNECT allows federal agencies and private sector healthcare organizations to securely exchange electronic patient information through the Nationwide Health Information Network. The open-source software gateway will help health organizations improve quality of care, reduce costs and accelerate access to benefits.
