One major city is crediting a computer-based patient registry with helping to improve the monitoring and health of diabetic patients. New York City’s Health and Hospitals Corporation, which oversees public hospitals and clinics that provide care to 1.3 million New Yorkers, says implementing an electronic health registry has helped them treat the more than 50,000 diabetics in the registry. The program allows doctors to manage the patients in the registry by monitoring their test results and by creating specialized medication programs.
