Intensive care patients in Maryland are now able to connect to specialized doctors and nurses at a remote care center through voice, video, and data lines. Thanks to Maryland eCare, hospitals in the state can provide specialized care around the clock to patients, even if a hospital is understaffed or has a shortage of specialty doctors. The program is also geared toward bringing skilled critical care to rural areas. Many hospitals say they’ll use eCare on nights, weekends and holidays – times that are typically difficult to staff specialty doctors
