When you think of border control projects, you might think of the chronically late and over budget Secure Border Initiative. But one program to better manage the country’s borders with Canada and Mexico was delivered on time and on budget. Under the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative at the Customs and Border Protection directorate at Homeland Security, drivers with high-tech licenses can zip through border crossings much faster now. And law enforcement can more easily screen more cars and quickly identify people who ought to be stopped. The project won an interagency cooperation award from IRMCO. At the IRMCO conference, Tom Temin spoke with the director, Chris Milowic.
