The Defense Department has struck a deal with the state of Maryland over road improvements in and around Fort Meade. A huge influx of new workers at the Defense Information Systems Agency on Fort Meade, because of BRAC, is causing concerns about traffic bottlenecks. The Baltimore Sun reports that the state highway administration and the Fort Meade command have agreed on some critical traffic improvements. Maryland will provide ten million dollars to improve an access gate on the post. In return, the federal government will grant easements on base property so the state can widen nearby roads. The establishment of the Cyber Command at Fort Meade is expected to eventually bring 21,000 jobs to the area.
