The Department of Defense is stepping up its fight against the overuse of acronyms.

The Department of Defense is stepping up its fight against the overuse of acronyms. DoD executive secretary Michael Bruhn has written to all Pentagon officials. The directive instructs all Pentagon officials to minimize the use of acronyms in all correspondence prepared for the Defense Secretary Robert Gates. The letter asks for clearer language and warns that the misuse or abuse of acronyms can lead to confusion.
