USMC Commandant glad EFV is gone

The Marine Corps’ top general says he’s glad Defense Secretary Robert Gates cancelled the Marines’ Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle program. In fact, General James Amos, the Commandant, takes credit for recommending the cancellation in the first place. GovExec reports, Amos said the cancellation doesn’t refute the amphibious assault mission of the Corps. It simply recognizes that the program was late, full of technical problems, and way over budget. Amos said the Marines will start over to develop a new landing vehicle. He made those remarks at the Surface Navy Association conference.
