DISA says move to IPv6 will be no problem
DISA expects an exceptionally smooth transition to IPv6.
The Defense Information Systems Agency is saying *no problem* with moving to IPv6. That’s because the agency switched to networking equipment three years ago that can handle both IPv4 and IPv6. Bruce Bennett is program executive officer for communications at DISA. He tells NextGov, DISA also recycles its IPv4 addresses, so it’s unlikely to run out. The last of the IPv4 addresses were released last month, and the government is supposed to eventually convert to IPv6. There is no practical limit to addresses available under the newer protocol.
