Immigration processing is vulnerable to insider threats according to a new report from the DHS inspector general.
Insider threats pose a significant danger to a Homeland Security system for digitizing immigration paperwork. Malicious tampering could give terrorists easy entry to the United States. The DHS inspector general named the Transformation program at Immigration and Customs Enforcement among the most vulnerable. The finding was part of a broad review of security at U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services. DHS hired the Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie Mellon University to conduct the security audit. The IG report said USCIS has made progress against insider threats. But it also offered 18 ways to improve security. The recommendations were accepted by department.
