Cyber funds fall in budget battle

The money has to come from somewhere. The $4 billion in 2011 cuts agreed to as part of the latest continuing resolution includes reductions in cyber security spending. NextGov reports, the deal to keep the government open through March 18 eliminates $20 million for network security programs. It trims the Homeland Security Department account for monitoring critical networks and facilities. That money was included in earmarks lawmakers deleted. Congressional aids say the money had not been allocated for specific projects. Texas Representative Mac Thornberry says more money does not automatically mean more security.
