The Defense and Veterans Affairs departments have agreed to use commercial, open source software to develop a joint electronic health record. And, they’ll develop a special advisory board to make sure the records development stays on track.

NextGov reports those are just two moves the departments have agreed to as they work out a management structure for the records project. The advisory board will be co-chaired by VA CIO Roger Baker and DOD deputy performance officer, Beth McGrath. Also to be established is a custodian agent to manage day-to-day code development.
