U.S. intelligence officials have accused China and Russia of systematically stealing data for their own national economic gain. It is the most forceful and detailed public airing of U.S. allegations after years of private complaints, the Associated Press reports.
National Counterintelligence Executive Robert Bryant told the National Press Club that the open accusations should serve as a diplomatic push toward solutions that’ll slow the number of cyberattacks.
The latest intelligence report showed that the most desired data includes communications and military technologies, clean energy, health care, pharmaceuticals and information about scarce natural resources. The cyberattackers are particularly interested in unmanned aircraft and other aerospace technology.
