The National Institute of Standards and Technology wants your input on how to make BIOS security guidelines better. BIOS are what boot up the hardware before a computer’s operating system starts. The agency is asking for comments on new draft BIOS security guidelines. They will be meant for vendors and security professionals. In September, Symantec discovered malware that burrows into BIOS. NIST says it wants to head off a threat that could lead to more sophisticated attacks on organizations.
