A major interagency effort to revise cybersecurity requirements is finally out.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology released the first draft of special publication 800-53 revision 4 yesterday. The update was a year-long effort by NIST, the Defense Department and the intelligence community.
SP 800-53, as it’s commonly known, tries to address the current state of cyber threats, vulnerabilities and risks.
NIST included new controls around privacy, revised the minimum assurance requirements, the designated assurance controls and updated the security control baselines.
Comments on the draft publication are due April 6.
