DoD asks Congress for more BRAC

Department of Defense officials told Congress that if they can\'t close military bases, they\'ll have to take more money out of forces, training and modernization.

Department of Defense officials told Congress that if they can’t close military bases, they’ll have to take more money out of forces, training and modernization. That testimony came from Dorothy Robyn, DoD’s undersecretary for installations and environment, yesterday as she defended the department’s Base Realignment and Closure plans.

Robyn said DoD needs permission for one BRAC round this year and another next year to eliminate excess real estate as a result of planned military drawdowns. She assured lawmakers the Defense Department is looking at bases overseas too. She said DOD plans to close about 100 of its existing 300 facilities in Europe.
