NTIA seeks to deploy software to protect domain name system

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration told a House panel it is trying to expand deployment of technology known as DNS-SEC. The software protects the domain name system that ties website names to their numerical addresses.
Fiona Alexander, NTIA’s associate administrator, said DNS-SEC was already installed on Internet root servers, but wider deployment would make the net even safer. She said the technology should also be used by domain name registrars, service providers and software vendors. DNS-SEC prevents bad actors from misdirecting users to malicious websites.
