Agencies and companies can use CAPTCHA to make sure only people and not bots access certain websites. Users type in images of distorted letters. InfoWorld reported Google was seeing if images of street address numbers on buildings could strengthen CAPTCHA. It has millions of such images from its Street View project.
CAPTCHA was developed by Carnegie Mellon University. Google bought the technology in 2009. The word CAPTCHA is an acronym. It stands for Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart. It has been shown to be potentially crackable in its current form.
