European Union lags behind U.S. in cyber legislation
The European Union said it wants to hear from businesses, governments and citizens about their experiences on the Net.
While the Senate prepares to debate cybersecurity legislation, other countries are moving ahead with similar proposals.
The European Union is not as far along as the U.S. Government. It said it wants to hear from businesses, governments and citizens about their experiences on the Net.
The European Commission said the feedback will help it prepare a bill later this year. But it said it is considering requiring industries to adopt certain security practices and to report security breaches.
Right now only telecom operators and Internet Service Providers are required to do that under EU law.
The U.S. Senate has eased up on requirements for industry. The latest version of the cyber bill proposes encouraging companies to comply with standards.
