In a major reversal of fortune, every Thrift Savings Plan fund, with the exception of the low-risk low-reward G fund, posted negative returns in October.

The S Fund, which invests in small-cap stocks, posted the lowest monthly numbers at -3.86 percent, and now stands at 3.50 percent for the past 12 months — a significant departure from the 13.69 percent it was at in September.

The C Fund, which invests in the S&P 500 Index, posted -1.82 percent this month, and still has the highest return over the past 12 months at 4.56 percent. However, that figure falls short of the 15.50 percent that it had posted in September.

The international stock-index I fund posted -2.03 percent in October, down from 1.24 percent in September. It’s fallen into the negative over the past 12 months at -2.18 percent.

The F fund, a fixed-income index investment fund, fell less drastically to -0.74 percent in October, down from -0.04 percent in September. It now stands at 4.66 percent for the past 12 months.

The TSP took a hit in June after investors withdrew $2.1 billion from the stock-indexed C, S and I funds, due to perceived uncertainty in the market following the United Kingdom’s “Brexit” referendum to leave the European Union.

The L Income fund posted a -0.38 percent return this month, while the rest of the lifecycle funds all showed negative returns.
