The Thrift Savings Plan rebounded in April from its slight March downturn. Every fund posted positive returns, and most came in higher than the previous month.
The small-cap stocks S Fund staged the biggest turnaround, coming in at 1.15 percent, a significant increase over March’s -0.08 percent return. However, that’s still less than half of February’s 2.45 percent return, so there’s still room for recovery. In addition, the 12-month return dropped by 0.7 percent, coming in at 21.83 percent.
The F Fund, a fixed-income index investment fund, also went from red to black, rising from a -0.01 percent in March to April’s 0.81 percent. That helped its 12-month return rise from 0.71 percent to 1.12 percent.
The international stocks I Fund was the only one that dropped in April, declining from 2.85 percent in March to 2.63 percent in April. However, despite the 0.22 percent decrease, it still posted the highest returns of all the funds, and its 12-month return still rose by 0.79 percent to reach a total of 12.91 percent.
The lifecycle funds also saw across-the-board improvements. The increases ranged from L Income’s 0.17 percent on the low end to the L 2050, which rose by 0.56 percent in April, on the high end.
The stable, low-risk, low-reward G Fund showed no change from March, holding steady at a 0.2 percent return. Its 12-month return stepped up slightly, from 1.92 to 1.98 percent.
Finally, the C Fund, which invests in the S&P 500 Index, posted a 1.03 percent return, up from 0.12 percent in March. The 12-month return grew from 17.20 percent to 17.95 percent.
