The Latest: Portland also weathering wet, bleak season

SEATTLE (AP) — The Latest on soggy weather in the Pacific Northwest (all times local):

Portland residents are weathering a wet and bleak season that rivals Seattle.

The National Weather Service has measured 45.5 inches of rain at Portland International Airport since Oct. 1, making it the second-wettest such period in the city in more than 75 years of record-keeping.

Colby Neuman, a meteorologist for the agency in Portland, says the city has also had the most days of rain ever, with 145 days of the wet stuff since Oct. 1.

This year’s February was also the wettest on record with 10.36 inches of rain.

Seattle has broken a rainfall record set in 1895 by getting 44.67 inches of rain since Oct. 1.

Soggy Seattle has broken another rainfall record.

The National Weather Service says the city measured 44.67 inches (114 centimeters) of rain between October and so far in April.

That makes it the wettest such period since records began in 1895.

Meteorologist Mike McFarland in the service’s Seattle office says it’s the second consecutive year that the city topped the rainfall record for that 7-month period.

With a few days left in in April, the record will likely go higher.

McFarland says cold-weather winter systems typically move through the area with dry breaks in between.

But this winter season has seen back to back weather systems that are wetter and warmer than normal.

The previous record was 44.52 inches (113 centimeters) of rain for the October 2015 to April 2016 period.
