The District of Columbia is shepherding in some smart city initiatives to set the nation’s capital apart. Ryan Ferguson, DC Inno’s general manager, says Washington, D.C. is testing projects such as energy and lighting. For example, the city is working with a startup from Britain that has installed kinetic stones into a sidewalk in Dupont Circle, producing energy when pedestrians walk on the sidewalk.
