Some of the most environmentally degraded communities can be found in Appalachian coal country and the Western Hardrock mining region. Dr. Allan Comp, a program analyst with the Department of the Interior’s Office of Surface Mining, wants to change that. The program he created teaches local communities how to be more environmentally sound. Dr. Comp has been nominated for a Service to America Medal for his work. He joins us as part of Federal News Radio’s “Sammies Tracker” series.
