A provision in the 2011 defense authorization bill would give the Pentagon authority to force vendors to exclude subcontractors the government has deemed to be security risks. The Wall Street Journal reports the provision appears aimed at foreign suppliers. Offshore suppliers have been suspected of supplying counterfeit parts or engineering cybersecurity risks into their products. But prime contractors worry because a sub could be excluded without the government having to give a reason, and the decision would not be subject to review.
