The military\'s Average Basic Allowance for Housing rates will decrease slightly for 2011
It’ll be the first time it has happened: the military’s Average Basic Allowance for Housing is going to fall slightly in 2011 for the first time. The military is adjusting its rates to reflect the nationwide housing market. The Army Times reports that as of January 1, 2011 the rates will slip – on average – about .6 percent. The lower rates will likely impact troops who move into a new area this year. The biggest decrease is Fort Bragg and Pope Air Force Base in North Carolina – down about 7.5 percent. The largest hike in housing allowance is Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana – up about 10 percent.
