Wave of contractor hacks led to changed security mindset

Cybersecurity Update.

There may be a silver lining in the wave of high profile breaches against defense contractors, such as RSA and Lockheed Martin.

Jimmy Sorrells, the senior vice president at Integrity Global Security, said these attacks could help bring a changed mindset to cybersecurity, Defense Systems reports.

Sorrells said agencies should first make comprehensive inventories of assets, including all data. Then, they should categorize assets based on confidentiality, integrity and availability.

Defense Systems reported that security firms are looking to combat a number of security flaws. In fact, experts say ineffective anti-virus software, a lack of zero-day exploit protection and unblocked peer-to-peer machine connections helped cyber hackers unleash the Stuxnet worm.
