Science and science-based agencies have plenty of brains in-house. But sometimes they need a little outside expertise.
The Food and Drug Administration wants to streamline the process of using outside experts. It’s now working on plans for a network of scientific experts on various topics, available at a moment’s notice.
Specifically, the expert networks will help the agency address the effect of regulations more quickly as well as provide a better window into new and emerging technologies, FDA said.
Dr. Bill Maisel is the deputy director for science and the chief scientist at the Center for Devices and Radiological Health at the FDA.
He joined the Federal Drive with Tom Temin and Amy Morris to discuss how FDA uses outside experts now and what will change with the new network.
