Every 60 days the Government Accountability Office is supposed to release a report on the execution of the Troubled Asset Relief Program administered by the Treasury Department. The first such report was released this week. Richard Hillman, Managing Director for Financial Markets and Community Investment Issues at the GAO, talked about the highlights of the report.

Building Up Inspectors General

Forensic auditing got a shot in the arm from the General Services Administration this week. The Inspector General’s Office at GSA sponsored a two-day workshop on the subject. Federal News Radio’s Max Cacas talked about the concept of forensic auditing with the event’s leader, Dr. Conan Albrecht of Brigham Young University, and Ted Stenehy, Director of Forensic Auditing in the Office of the Inspector General at GSA.

Chief Technology Officer: Not So Much

The debate goes on over whether President-elect Obama should create the position of Chief Technology Officer, and if so, what that person’s portfolio should include. Jim Harper, Director of Information Policy Studies at the Cato Institute, weighed in with a blog post on the subject, and we talked about the points he made in the post. We also talked about transparency of Federal information, and Jim told me about an event Cato is hosting next week called “Just Give Us the Data.”
