A long-range stealth bomber may be the only major new program in the foreseeable future given the $490 billion the Pentagon must cut from it’s budget over the next decade.

Bloomberg reports the aircraft will be the first new bomber design since Northrop Grumman’s B-2 almost three decades ago. The “optionally manned” aircraft will be the first of it’s kind — able to be flown remotely or by a pilot onboard. Lockheed Martin and Boeing are expected to compete for the plane that will help meet President Obama’s goal to have weapons that reach remote areas where “access and freedom freedom to operate are challenged.”
