The head of Accenture’s federal business has resigned.
Kay Kapoor, who took over as head of Accenture Federal in February 2011, announced last week she’s was leaving to pursue other opportunities, according to an internal email obtained by Federal News Radio and confirmed by Accenture spokeswoman Joanne Veto.
John Goodman, Accenture’s lead for its defense and intelligence business, will take over Accenture Federal Services on an interim basis until a successor is named.
“We are fortunate that we have someone of John’s talent and experience to provide leadership for AFS until we name Kay’s successor,” wrote Dan London, managing director of Accenture’s Health and Public Service North America unit in an email to staff sent Sept. 13. “For the past three years, John has led our relationship at the Department of Defense and in the Intelligence Community and has done an excellent job growing this business. Please join me in thanking Kay for her contributions and wishing her success in the future, as well as thanking John for taking on this additional interim responsibility.”
Kapoor becomes the second head of federal to resign in two years. Lisa Mascolo became head of federal services in October 2009 and left in late 2010.
Goodman has been with Accenture since 1998, according to the bio on the company’s website. In addition to working with the company, he was the deputy undersecretary of Defense for industrial affairs and installations, the deputy assistant secretary of defense and a senior director on the staff of the National Economic Council in the White House.
Kapoor came to Accenture after spending time at ITT, where she served as vice president of the company’s Advanced Information Systems and after spending 20 years at Lockheed Martin, where she served as vice president and deputy of the company’s federal civilian business.
In fiscal 2011, Accenture won more than $960 million in prime federal contracts, according to USASpending.gov. This year, so far, the company, which provides management and professional services and integration services, has received more than $506 million in prime awards.
