Your agency’s website may be on the shutdown list along with some of your employees. Agencies are preparing to take websites and IT systems offline if the government shuts down. New guidance from the Office of Management and Budget and the General Services lays out those steps. Federal News Radio’s executive editor Jason Miller is here to tell us what the guidance says.

The Homeland Security Department’s preparations for shutdown are posted now on Federal News Radio along with the plans for every other federal agency. But DHS may be in worse shape than other agencies. Many executive leadership jobs at the top of the agency are empty or occupied by acting officials. Paul Druckman, chairman of the National Defense Industrial Association’s Homeland Security Division, says job openings at DHS on the eve of a possible shutdown make a bad situation even worse.

Today, we listened to highlights from the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. The committee is looking at the future employee and financial well being at the Postal Service. We also heard highlights from a hearing from Thursday called “Outside the Box: Reforming and Renewing the Postal Service, Promoting a 21st Century Workforce.” The witnesses were Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe and Chief Executive Officer of the Postal Service Jonathan Foley, Director of Planning and Policy Analysis at the Office of Personnel Management Frank Todisco, Chief Actuary of the Government Accountability Office and Director for Health Care at the GAO John Dicken.
