National Nuclear Security Administration

Dr. Linda Wilbanks Chief Information Officer July 17th, 2008

Dr. Linda Wilbanks – CIO

The National Nuclear Security Administration is an Energy Department bureau, but it reports directly to the Secretary of Energy and works pretty much independent of the rest of the department.

That may be changing, however, as financial prudence overcomes independence.

Dr. Linda Wilbanks, NNSA’s chief information security officer, is in the middle of that change.

She is working with the rest of the Energy Department on enterprise hardware and software services. NNSA also is moving its unclassified network to the Energy Department’s.

Wilbanks says all of these initiatives are about saving money, but more importantly giving the administration’s headquarters and eight remote locations better service.
