DoD starts to see results of spending reforms

Military.com reports Pentagon officials should start seeing results of spending reforms.

Pentagon officials should now start seeing results from the major spending reforms launched by Defense Secretary Robert Gates this summer, said Deputy Defense Secretary William Lynn.

According to the American Forces Press Service, Gates’ push to change the DoD’s approach to military acquisition means just about every DoD official has had to take a hard look at how the department is staffed, organized and operated.

Lynn described the reforms as a four-track approach that includes shifting $100 billion from overhead to warfighting accounts, reforming the acquisition process and a reduction in the number of headquarters.

Lynn said the biggest challenge to instill a culture of savings at the department is changing the way people think.
