A study finds bosses overestimate their managing skills, The Wall Street Journal reports.
Managers overestimate their leadership skills, according to a survey by consulting firm Development Dimensions International Inc., the Wall Street Journal reports.
Nearly three-quarters of the 1,100 front-line managers surveyed said they never questioned their ability to lead others.
“It doesn’t matter what industry you’re in. People have blind spots about where they’re weak,” said Scott Erker, a senior vice president at DDI, in the Journal article.
Despite the high level of confidence among most managers, some did express doubts. About 26 percent said that they regretted being promoted at least sometimes during their first year, and 15 percent said that their interest in being a manager decreased since being promoted.
