Steve Ressler, founder and president of GovLoop, talks to Tom Temin about the current and future use of social media in government, and how social media changed...

Social media tools like Facebook, Twitter, and GovLoop weren’t around during the last government shutdown in 1995. But they were used plenty leading up to Friday night’s averted shutdown.

Federal employees and media outlets alike used the various services to share information they were hearing about the potential shutdown as well as ask questions.

Steve Ressler, president and founder of GovLoop, spoke to Federal News Radio about the use of these various social media tools during the height of shutdown talks. He spoke with Tom Temin at the Federal Senior Management Conference.

He also explained which federal agencies he thinks are using social media well and which have some work to do moving forward.
