Tony Smeraglinolo is President and CEO of Engility, a finalist for this year's Contractor of the Year award in the greater than 300 million dollars in sales category. The Government Accountability Office has launched a fee-based training center for other government watchdogs. The Center for Audit Excellence has been in the works since Congress approved the idea in a law passed late last year. The center's director, Janet Saint Laurent, tells Federal News Radio's Emily Kopp on Federal Drive with Tom Temin by training other public auditors, GAO will help ensure that federal dollars are well spent.

Agencies have made little progress over the last two years protecting their data and computer networks. An effort to cut improper payments from the Obama administration hasn't worked the way the White House wanted. Comptroller General of the United States Gene Dodaro told the Senate Finance Committee improper federal payments increased by almost 20 percent in 2014. Beryl Davis, director of financial management and assurance issues at the Government Accountaibility Office, told In Depth with Francis Rose that GAO has been unable to determine the the full extent of improper payments.
The Senate will begin debate on this year's National Defense Authorization Act this week. Bloomberg reports a cloture vote is likely tomorrow, with a vote on approval after that. The House passed the conference report on the NDAA 270 to 156 Thursday. The effort to revamp the General Services Administration's Schedule 70 isn't only happening in the Federal Acquisition Service. The agency's customer service team is working with FAS to make Schedule 70 easier to use and easier for vendors to access. It's one of a number of customer service initiatives at GSA.
