Congress debates DHS cyber authority, Internet ‘kill switch’

Lawmakers are worried about a so-called Internet \"kill switch\" in a cyber bill.

Cybersecurity issues are heating up in both the House and the Senate. Topping the debate is how much authority the Homeland Security Department should have over domestic cybersecurity. And the Senate’s cybersecurity reform bill that includes that provision for the so-called internet Kill Switch.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) says there is so much misinformation about the so-called kill switch — saying the bill would include a specific prohibition against the president abusing his authority.

Politico reports the cyber reform bill will be a top priority and the upcoming Democrats caucus retreat.
