The Department of Veterans Affairs is spending more than $50 million to help ensure their information security.
The money will help the VA better identify all laptops, desktop PCs and other devices linked to its network, as well as determine whether the devices are encrypted and have applications and operating systems.
GovInfoSecurity reports, Roger Baker, the VA chief information officer, will be sending letters to all companies that do business with the VA to remind them that if they have access to veterans’ data, they must certify that they meet the agency’s security guidelines.
Baker says this is all part of the VA’s ongoing effort to improve its ability to precisely identify the approximately one million devices linked to its network to pinpoint potential security vulnerabilities.
