Vote today in our Best of the Federal Government series.
(This poll is officially closed. Click here for the results.)
Federal News Radio asked you to nominate the agencies with the best overall location as part of our Best of the Federal Government series.
Thanks to you, we received the most diverse set of nominations to date — most from outside the Beltway!
The agencies receiving the most nominations were:
As one nominator said of the National Park Service, “We have some of the most fabulous locations you can think of – urban and non-urban. Think of the headquarters of the New Orleans Jazz National Historic Site on Bourbon St. in New Orleans. Or the San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park, practically on Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco…I’ll put those against anything in DC.”
Another agency nominated from outside the Beltway was the Veterans Affairs Department’s New York Harbor Healthcare System.
“It is minutes away by foot, bus or subway to more fabulous restaurants than there are days in a decade; the Broadway theater district with all of the top shows; jazz, dance, and comedy clubs; wonderful museums such as the Metropolitan Museum, the Museum of Natural History, and the Intrepid; and other cultural riches such as Lincoln Center with its opera, ballet, and symphony orchestra; Greenwich Village, South Street Seaport, China Town, and Little Italy.”
The Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California was also nominated for its location along the Monterey Bay.
And the Department of Energy’s Golden Field Office was nominated for its setting in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.
One agency in D.C. also made the list. One nominator described the Department of Agriculture as “the only agency with a building on the Mall, centrally located to most museums, directly above the Smithsonian metro stop, and an easy walk to restaurants.”
Now it’s your turn to vote. Which of these agencies do you think deserves to win? Vote as many times as you like. Voting closes Friday, September 17, 2010.
