DoD aims to move to cleaner energy
As part of Energy Awareness Month, DoD releases a statement on its commitment to move toward cleaner energy sources.
The Defense Department is the biggest consumer of energy in all of government. It spends about $3.8 billion every year on energy.
As part of Energy Awareness Month, the Pentagon held an energy summit this week. Top Army officials made a point of saying energy use often translates into being a vulnerability for them.
The Army has been working with private industry and developing new partnerships with the goal of using cleaner energy sources and making warfighters more resourceful. The Army is also in the process of updating its acquisition process to require that energy be taken into consideration in all acquisition programs.
