NASA has created its own data portal to consolidate its vast warehouse of digital information and share it with the public. Data.NASA.gov starts off with a collection of 500 datasets on topics ranging from climate to aeronautics to life sciences and six other categories. The open data project also includes a selection of widgets and tools to manipulate and search for information. NASA says it receives more than 4 terabytes of digital data, just from its spacecraft missions, every day.
