January 10, 2012 — One aspect of “going to the cloud” that nobody mentions is . . . what about the pipes?
If remote locations will need to use a server in a different location, what is the cheapest way to accomplish this task?
On today’s show, host John Gilroy will talk about these issues with Tony Bardo, assistant vice president for Government Solutions at Hughes.
With over three decades of working with federal IT professionals, Bardo understands some of the challenges that are unique to the federal space.
Hughes estimates that the federal government has over 25,000 T-1 lines.
If you estimate $400 per month, then you can see this is a challenge for just about every agency.
During the interview, Bardo will talk about the success that the United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection service has had with managing broadband services at 300 sites across the country.
Few realize that the FSIS has over 7,000 inspectors that need to be in communication with the agency in order to protect America’s food supply.
Bardo will also discuss carrier service compared to broadband, security considerations, and gives an overview of the range of broadband services that can be managed effectively.
