Report: Clinton considering World Bank move

Reuters reports that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is considering a move to the World Bank

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is interested in becoming the next president of the World Bank, Reuters reports.

Citing sources, Reuters reports that Clinton has been in discussions to take over as the head of the financial institution next year if current president Robert Zoellick decided to leave the organization at the end of his current term in mid-2012.

Clinton has previously stated that she did not want to stay as head of the State Department for more than four years.

Traditionally, the president at the World Bank has been American, and the top position at the International Monetary Fund has been held by Europeans. The presidency of the IMD is currently vacant, and the United States has not yet indicated if it will support the candidacy of French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde.

If Clinton does move to the World Bank, Sen. John Kerry (D., Mass.), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, may be considered to replace her at the State Department.

Both the White House and Clinton declined comment to Reuters.
