In this week’s edition of On DoD, Jared Serbu speaks with the Director of the Defense Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Arati Prabhakar. She says DARPA has felt the impact of a decreasing budget. The agency has had to end projects early and delayed new programs due to the effects of sequestration.

Also on the show, Program Manager at the Office of Naval Research (ONR) John Moniz talks about smartphones debuting on the battlefield. The ONR and the Marine Corps recently finished their third annual technology demonstration in Hawaii called Agile Bloodhound. The main objective was to push forward some new systems that can sift through the massive volumes of data and get them in the hands of front-line marines.

Finally, Jared Serbu highlights Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) speeches from Lead Mobile Engineer for Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and Public Key Enabling (PKE) Devon O’Brien, Chief Mobility Engineer Greg Youst and Component Acquisition Executive Dr. Jennifer Carter at the recent AFCEA DC Defense and Security Mobile Technologies Symposium. They talk about mobile technology security, and how the Pentagon wants to get the latest mobile technology in the hands of DoD employees for day-to-day operations.
