When it comes to cybersecurity, are two protocols better than one?

That’s the idea behind the new National Institute of Standards and Techology project, Government Computer News reports.

The project integrates the Trusted Computing Group with the government’s Security Content Automation Protocols.

The goal is to help enable automated policy enforcement on networks. The South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services is testing the combination in a pilot program.

Steve Hanna, an engineer at Juniper Networks, says the idea is simple: Two standards offer a complementary set of capabilities, each valuable in its own right but much more powerful when combined.

TCG and SCAP will remain separate sets of standards developed under the auspices of their own organizations.
