Zeus botnet activity rebounds

Activity by the notorious password-stealing Zeus botnet is already on the rebound, Krebs on Security reports.

Activity by the notorious password-stealing Zeus botnet is already on the rebound.

The powerful Trojan horse did take a major hit almost right after investigators from three countries launched a series of sweeps in September. But the criminal gangs that run the botnet are proving to be resilient and relentless.

Statistics collected by the website Zeus Tracker indicate that while its activity was already dropping off in early September, that activity positively tanked following the arrests.

Krebs On Security said activity dipped to its lowest level since the Troyak takedowns earlier this year. Before the arrests that started on Sept 29th, Zeus Tracker was tracking more than 90 active Zeus control domains. By Oct. 3rd, that number had fallen to just 20.
