Federal security managers with iPhones can now get security alerts wherever they are. A new iPhone application from Cisco was released Friday. It relays information from the Cisco’s Security Intelligence Operations. InfoWeek reports, the application is aimed at enterprise IT departments. If there is an attack detected on an enterprise network, application users receive an instantaneous notification on their iPhone. The alert system uses information from 700,000 sensors at throughout the Internet. Cisco’s S-I-O To Go app will be free and downloadable from Apple’s App Store. So far, no word of a similar application for BlackBerrys.

Federal IT executives in a survey say that cloud computing and other technology trends present the greatest security risks to government systems. Almost 8 in 10 respondents to the Ponemon Institute study express concern that collaboration software opens up security holes. 52 percent say that Web 2.0 contributes to data breaches and botnet attacks. And 6 in 10 say mobile devices present big security risks. The study covered 217 senior IT executives in civilian and defense agencies
