Cyber Command misses operational deadline
The Defense Department announced that Cyber Command did not achieve its October 1st deadline for being fully operational.
Despite it being the start of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, the Pentagon’s new Cyber Command has missed the October first deadline for becoming fully operational. The command is responsible for shielding 15,000 military networks. But a defense spokesman says DoD is still setting it up. The Pentagon blames the delay on the Senate: the seven-month confirmation process for the Cyber Command’s new head, General Keith Alexander. A Cyber Command official who spoke with Reuters says the goal is to finish work by the end of October. But a Pentagon spokesman says DoD isn’t setting a new deadline.
